UPSC GS Prelims 31 Year Topic-wise Solved Papers 1 & 2 (1995 – 2025) Dr.Mrunal Patel
is it important to have a PYQ book?
Observing previous years’ papers helps you understand what type of topics are being asked by UPSC, and then accordingly you can focus on the facts while reading books and newspapers. For example,
What did UPSC ask?
Economy’s digital payment related topics
2025
NEFT & RTGS
2024
Central Bank Digital Currency
2023
Central Bank Digital Currency
2022
Features of Non Fungible Token (NIT)
2020
Blockchain Technology
Thus, you can see that digital payment related topics are regularly asked in the economy portion of the UPSC Prelims exam.
In 2025, many PYQ’s were repeated from earlier years completely or partially (1) State Government’s power over minor minerals (from 2019), (2) Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (from 2019), (3) Virus charac teristics (from 2013), (4) Word ‘Araghatta’ (from 2016) and so forth. And, therefore, having a PYQ book on your desk greatly helps.
Observations on Last UPSC Prelims
The 2025 prelims paper was tougher and more factual than 2024 but easier than 2023.
A good number of questions were directly solvable through standard books (e.g., NCERT, Govt’s India Yearbook, etc.) benefiting candidates from small towns, villages, or self-study backgrounds.
Over a dozen assertion-reasoning (A&R) questions, including three-statement A&R, were ambiguous, with answers varying based on interpretation of individual teacher and student, until the official key is released in 2026.
Paper-2 (CSAT) was notably difficult, you’ll need 4-6 months of dedicated preparation.
Observations on Last UPSC Mains
Mains 2024, repeated themes from previous years, especially in GS4 (Ethics), with repetitive case studies on corruption, medicine release, and procurement conflicts.
Therefore, solving past Mains papers is crucial for preparation.
