Mental Ability Tests Shri W N Dandekar

Shri W. N. Dandekar a well known educationist from Maharashtra, had worked in various capacities in the teaching as well as in the administrative wing of the education department of the Government of Maharashtra. At the fag end of his career, he worked as the Director of Education (Goa), and retired in June 1980.

During the period 1976-78 he worked as the Commissioner of Government examinations, when he introduced a revised pattern for the scholarship examination which included three subjects namely, language, mathematics and intelligence test. This new subject Intelligence test was included for the first time in the scholarship examination held in April 1978. This change in the pattern has naturally helped many students who later on appeared for various competitive examinations.

After retirement in 1980, Shri Dandekar conducted many workshops throughout Maharashtra for guiding the students appearing for various competitive examinations. Workshops were also organised for the benefit of teachers and parents. Even after completing the age of 80 years, he has continued this activity.

He has written about 50 books both in English and in Marathi covering various subjects such as Educational Psychology, Evaluation, Statistics, Intelligence Test, Mathematics and many other books useful for various competitive examinations. Many students give credit to these books for their success in the competitive examinations. His books on Educational Psychology and Evaluation have been recommended by some Universities for students of teacher training courses.

An erudite teacher as well as a renowned author, Shi Dandekar has had a very successful career in the field of education. He always says, “Teaching must be inspirational.” Readers will find qualities of an effective teacher and a good writer in many of his books.
