Author’s Note

Dear Students,

The book you now hold in your hands is the English edition of my Marathi work “Aadhunik Maharashtracha Itihas Samajsudharak” (History of Modern Maharashtra And Social Reformers).

In recent years, the number of English-medium students appearing for MPSC and UPSC examinations has increased considerably. However, most of the books essential for the study of Maharashtra’s history are available primarily in Marathi, making it difficult for English-medium students to study this subject effectively. As a result, while preparing for UPSC seemed relatively easier, MPSC appeared mons challenging to many aspirants.

Taking into account the continuous demand from students for an English edition, I am extremely pleased to present this version.

No changes have been made in the content of this book, it is an exact replica of the forthcoming 11th Marathi edition. Thus, students now have access to the same high-quality and authentic content in both Marathi and English.

This happens to be the first comprehensive and high-standard book on Modern Maharashtra’s History available in English.

A great share of credit for the translation of this book goes to my learned wife, Mrs. Sunita Mahajan, for her valuable contribution.

I am also deeply thankful to Prof. Yasmin Dandekar from Nashik for her invaluable assistance in the translation process.

My heartfelt gratitude to both of them for their dedicated efforts. I also express heartfelt thanks to all the students who persistently requested, “We want this history book in English.”
